The Award has been developed to support and celebrate governance best practice, recognising the importance of good governance to the effectiveness and efficiency of an association institute, or society. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for a clear plan and evidence that it is delivering on core objectives, paying particular attention to the criteria listed below.

  • Transparency: Please demonstrate a commitment to transparency in your operations, including clear and accessible financial reporting, decision-making processes, and access to information for members and stakeholders.
  • Accountability: Please demonstrate how your organisation establishes clear lines of accountability, including the roles and responsibilities of board members, executives, and staff. Please also detail how your organisation ensures individuals are held responsible for their actions.
  • Ethical Conduct: Please demonstrate how your organisation adheres to a strong code of ethics, with emphasis on promoting integrity, fairness, and honesty in all your activities. In your answer, include ethical conduct in financial management, dealings with stakeholders, and decision-making processes.
  • Member Involvement: Please demonstrate your organisation's commitment to effective governance by showcasing active member participation and valuing their input in shaping policies and strategies.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Please demonstrate compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to your sector. This includes legal obligations related to governance, financial reporting, and any specific requirements for associations and institutes in Ireland.
