C-suite leaders in the associations sector should take note: Northern Ireland’s top health officials have issued a powerful stand in support of internationally recruited health and care workers following recent xenophobic attacks in Ballymena. Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and professional body leaders affirmed that without these global colleagues, the health service would collapse. 

Their message? Diversity is not just an asset—it’s a necessity. The united response from all chief officers makes clear that protecting the wellbeing of international workers is a collective, non-negotiable responsibility. At a time when social tensions risk eroding workforce morale and retention, associations across sectors must actively promote inclusion, safety, and belonging.
