The Gaelic Players Association (GPA), Ireland's representative body for inter-county Gaelic games players, has launched its Playbook strategy covering 2025 to 2027. The strategic plan sets out priorities for player welfare, personal development, commercial opportunities, and representation across Gaelic football and hurling.

Sport for Business reported that the Playbook establishes a framework for the GPA's work supporting over 2,500 inter-county players across Ireland.

The strategy focuses on four key pillars: enhancing player welfare and support services, expanding personal and professional development programmes, maximising commercial opportunities for members, and strengthening player voice in governance and decision-making structures. The GPA will work with stakeholders including the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), government bodies, and commercial partners to deliver the strategy's objectives.

Player welfare initiatives include mental health support, injury management, career transition assistance, and education programmes. The GPA aims to ensure players can balance sporting commitments with personal development and career progression whilst maintaining high performance standards.

The strategic plan also addresses commercial rights and revenue generation, seeking to expand partnerships that create financial opportunities for players whilst protecting their collective interests. The GPA will advocate for improved player conditions, appropriate compensation structures, and enhanced recognition of the time and commitment required at inter-county level.

Strategic planning frameworks enable membership organisations to align resources, communicate priorities, and measure progress against defined objectives. The GPA's Playbook approach provides transparency to members and stakeholders whilst establishing accountability mechanisms for organisational performance.

The three-year timeframe allows the association to balance immediate member needs with longer-term strategic investments in infrastructure, partnerships, and advocacy capacity.
