The Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening leadership development across Malaysia and the ASEAN region, as the country positions itself as a strategic management and business hub ahead of the institute's 60th anniversary.

Bernama reported that MIM president Datuk Yeoh Soo Min made the announcement at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on 21 May, ahead of the institute's upcoming 60th Anniversary Royal Gala Dinner, scheduled for 8 August at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Yeoh said MIM's next chapter would focus on ensuring leadership development remains relevant, rigorous and aligned with evolving organisational and national needs, with particular attention to younger professionals taking on management roles earlier in their careers.

She said: "Global knowledge is valuable and international expertise is important, but leadership development must also be rooted in Malaysian and ASEAN realities. Younger leaders taking on management roles at an earlier stage must be supported, while the institutional knowledge of senior leaders should continue to be valued. Learning becomes stronger when generations learn from each other."

The Royal Gala Dinner is expected to draw around 700 guests from government, business, academia and the professional community, with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin serving as royal guests of honour, reflecting what Yeoh described as leadership development being not merely a professional agenda but a national responsibility.

Since its establishment in 1966, MIM has supported more than one million professionals and over 5,000 organisations through leadership programmes, executive education, professional certifications, conferences and strategic collaborations.

MIM chairman Datuk Zainal Amanshah Zainal Arshad, CEO Kabenesh Eliathamby and vice-president Datuk Ng Tieh Chuan also attended the press conference.
