The Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) has launched a nationwide campaign showcasing how broadband is changing the rhythm of rural life. Central to this message is the Miley family from West Wicklow, whose story embodies the link between connectivity and progress in agriculture.

Through IFA Fibre, the association’s broadband service delivered in partnership with SIRO, farmers are gaining access to fibre-to-the-home connections that enable smarter, data-driven operations. Stephen and Maeve Miley feature in the new Experience the Difference campaign, highlighting how automation and high-speed internet have helped them modernise their dairy farm and regain work-life balance.

Their use of a computerised milking parlour and automated calf feeder has streamlined operations and improved herd management. “IFA Fibre has made us farm smarter,” Stephen said. “We’ve got the data for every cow at our fingertips.”

Beyond productivity, the campaign stresses quality of life. “Technology gave us time back,” Maeve explained, noting how reliable connectivity allows flexibility in daily routines and more time for family life.

According to IFA Director of Organisation James Kelly, broadband is “no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.” Member Services Chair Patrick McCormick added that the campaign’s real-world stories show how digital infrastructure can sustain competitiveness and community well-being in the countryside.

By promoting connectivity as an essential farming tool, the IFA is positioning digital access as a pillar of modern agriculture and rural resilience.
