The Law Society of Northern Ireland hosted the first of a new series of regional cluster events in Omagh, a gathering that matters to institute professionals as it puts a locally focused engagement strategy into practice rather than leaving it as a policy announcement. Solicitors from Fermanagh, Omagh and Dungannon attended the event at the Silverbirch Hotel to share knowledge, discuss common challenges and strengthen support networks for running their practices.

Law Society of Northern Ireland is the professional body regulating solicitors in Northern Ireland, operating from Law Society House in Belfast.

The Omagh event operationalises a pilot programme the Society launched earlier this year rather than starting a new initiative from scratch.

In April 2026 the Society introduced a Local Association Affiliation initiative offering its 15 local solicitor associations a modest grant to support member engagement, outreach and local activity, aimed at sustaining legal services in rural and smaller communities, according to Irish Legal News. That earlier announcement recognised that rural and small practices face particular pressures around regulatory compliance and attracting new talent.

Law Society president Mark Borland said, "It was a pleasure to welcome solicitors from Fermanagh, Omagh and Dungannon to the Law Society's inaugural regional cluster event this week. The afternoon provided an important opportunity for colleagues to connect, share their experiences and explore practical approaches to some of the challenges facing local practices, from regulatory compliance to attracting and retaining talented people in their community."

For the sector, converting a funded pilot into an actual programme of in-person regional events signals the Society intends sustained delivery rather than a one-off grant scheme. For the sector's smaller and rural practices specifically, structured regional convening addresses an isolation problem that individual firm level support cannot solve on its own.

Whether the cluster model expands beyond this first Omagh event to cover the Society's other 14 local associations will determine how much practical difference the wider initiative makes to rural solicitor retention.
