Michele O'Boyle SC, Senior Counsel Solicitor and Adjunct Professor of Law at Trinity College, has been re-appointed for a second term to the Council of the International Bar Association (IBA) representing the Law Society of Ireland internationally. The International Bar Association, established in 1947, is the world's leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations, and law societies.
Irish Independent reported that the IBA influences international law reform development and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.
Michele O'Boyle said: "Serving as an IBA Council Member for the last three years has been a valuable opportunity to contribute to the work of the IBA, support its objectives and represent the interests and expertise of the Law Society in an international forum. I am delighted to have an opportunity to serve for a second term and, I remain fully committed to represent the Law Society of Ireland internationally over the next three years on the IBA Council and, to continue to build valuable international professional relationships."
The appointment enables the Law Society of Ireland to maintain strategic representation within the IBA's governance structure, ensuring Irish legal sector interests and expertise are represented in international forums shaping legal practice standards, professional conduct frameworks, and law reform initiatives globally.
Council membership in international professional associations provides domestic member organisations with opportunities to influence international policy development, access global networks, share best practices across jurisdictions, and enhance the professional standing of their domestic membership through international engagement.
O'Boyle's second term reflects continuity in the Law Society of Ireland's international engagement strategy, enabling sustained relationship building and ongoing contribution to IBA's work over a six-year period.
