The United States Tennis Association's strategic investment arm, USTA Ventures, has backed US-based AI scheduling software company Fastbreak AI, deploying the technology to automate the scheduling of millions of adult league matches each year across the country.
425 Business reported that more than 300,000 players compete in USTA Leagues annually, generating over two million court hours of play that are currently scheduled manually, requiring hundreds of staff and thousands of hours to coordinate.
The USTA will pilot Fastbreak's software across a number of league areas by the end of 2026, with a wider rollout planned for 2027.
Michael Hughes, senior director of digital strategy and business development at USTA, said: "USTA Ventures' goal has always been to make investments that help drive the USTA's mission. By freeing the substantial volume of resources currently dedicated to League scheduling, Fastbreak has the potential to have a tremendous impact on helping the USTA reinvest in directly growing the game of tennis."
Fastbreak AI CEO John Stewart said: "We built Fastbreak to solve exactly this kind of problem. We're honored that USTA Ventures recognised that potential, and we're excited to help free up the resources that will go directly toward growing the game of tennis."
Fastbreak AI is trusted by more than 65 professional leagues worldwide, including the NBA, NHL and MLS, to build season schedules.
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the company builds software designed to help sports organisations run more efficiently and deliver better experiences for athletes and administrators.
USTA Ventures launched in 2023, and its previous investments have included PlayReplay, which facilitated electronic line-calling for over 100,000 matches in the US in 2025, and Court 16, which has opened three new locations since receiving investment in December 2024.
The USTA partnership marks Fastbreak AI's fourth investment from USTA Ventures and its most operationally significant deployment within a national sports association to date.
