The historic Subic Bay shipyard is being repositioned to support both Manila’s defence ambitions and Washington’s plan to expand naval production over the next three decades. Once part of South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries, the site is now under new management and pitched as a strategic partner for the US as it seeks to revive its long-stalled shipbuilding industry amid rising regional tensions.
